I’ve just learned from Pamela Gay’s Blog about a cool new device designed to quantitatively measure the sky brightness.
It costs $119.00 and operates on a 9V battery. C’mon, you know you want one. I sure as hell do.
What do you get for your money? A number in visual magnitudes per square arcsecond.
Now, […]

I can see it coming.
With all that’s happened to NASA this past year it’s gonna see more budget cuts. NASA’s image is becoming one of mismanagement and a place for scary high-school romances.
And let’s face it, NASA is a party agency. All the other agencies kinda look down on them for that.
It’s becoming […]

I guess this explains the cost of the International Space Station.
The Government Accounting Office (GAO) released this report saying that over the last 10 years, 94 million dollars in equipment has been lost. On the first page of the report is this little gem:
“This computer, although assigned to me, was being used on board […]

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. This has been a bad week for NASA, lots of crazy, weird stuff being found out about our beloved space agency.
First, there was an astronaut wearing diapers, then we find out she wasn’t wearing diapers.
Now they have people running around cutting wires on space computers for a boondoggle space station […]

According to the anthropic prinicple, the universe is finely tuned for the existence of life. The problem with that idea is (one of many), is that if you look at the universe, most of it is pretty damned inhospitable and will kill all life in less than a second. Most of the universe […]

In a hearing held yesterday on the status of the space shuttle and the International Space Station, former manager of NASA’s space station program Tommy Holloway testified that getting stuff up to the space station might not be possible when the shuttle is retired.
Apparently, the vehicles that will replace the space shuttle aren’t even close […]

Using a pair of giant scissors made possible by technology developed during the Apollo program, the director of the Johnson Space Flight Center announced the opening of a really cool facility to house their Saturn V rocket, one of only two complete ones left after the Apollo program ended.
There is a third, […]

“No more discoveries about the universe till we find out who dies.”, astronomers from around the world exclaim.
Tony Darnell, senior cosmologist at AstronomyBuff.com, pictured above in his ‘jammies’ during an all-night marathon reading of the latest Harry Potter book. “There’s no way those goddamned string theorists are going to find out who dies before […]

I’m a blogger that likes to do more than just whine and complain while others do all the work, I like to be a part of the solution.
In this post, I’ve written that the Kepler team has had some financial difficulty, so much so that NASA had all but cancelled the project.
In a nutshell:
In 2006, […]

And if so, where does it go?
I know that’s gross, but I thought of this question while reading this page describing how to gain insight into someone’s personality by looking at how they sleep.
I know you don’t want to admit it, but everyone has that little wet spot on their pillow when […]
