Hacker’s Diet Online
As I’ve posted before, I recently lost over 40 pounds, going from 225 to 180 (ish), which is about the right weight for my height (6 feet) and age (44). I lost those pounds following John Walker’s Hacker’s Diet. The approach he uses involves lots of easy to understand common sense, but the follow through is the killer.
The basic idea is that there are 3500 calories in a pound of fat. Wanna lose a pound a week? Eat 3500 less calories that week than you burn up. Simple. Easy. Yeah, I know…
Following the plan exactly involves lots of spreadsheets, measurements, calculations, etc that I never did, mostly because I wasn’t in all that big of a hurry and I didn’t care to follow the scientific method to probe all that deeply into the inner workings of my body. Because ohmygodletsfaceit, not that many people can look that closely at themselves and not cringe. I was pretty scared by what I would find.
Instead, I estimated what I burned each day sitting on my ass in front of a computer (2100 calories) and ate less than that each day. Over about 6 weeks, 40 pounds were gone. Piece of cake (so to speak).
Anyway, John’s put up those spreadsheets and other resources online on a webpage called Hacker’s Diet Online. For a real nerd’s nerd approach to losing weight, this is the only way to go. I highly recommend it.
I love John Walker’s blog. It is without a doubt one of the smartest on the web.
