How I Overcame My Math Blocks
More than any other article I have ever written, How I Overcame My Math Blocks on my DeepAstronomy.com site has been the most popular. That story really hit a nerve, I get the most touching emails from people who’ve read it and been profoundly affected by it. The experience has been very humbling.
Every single day I get emails from people thanking me for sharing that story. The most important thing I’ve learned about successful writing and blogging for the web is that in order to get (and keep) readers, the more personal you get the better.
I really feel like I’ve bared my soul for this blog and for DeepAstronomy. I’ve done, written and said things I never thought I would in a public forum. The thing is, I’ve discovered that I really enjoy, not just imparting what I know to people, but to try and reach them on emotional levels as well. More than any other technique, writing personal stuff has been the best way to reach people.
Anyway, I just wanted to take a minute to thank all of the people who’ve emailed me these past weeks (for some reason, I’ve been getting deluged with email from DeepAstronomy readers, someone must have Dugg it or put it on Reddit again) telling me how much those articles have affected you. Feedback like that is why I do this, I certainly don’t make any money at it, but I really, really enjoy the interactions with all of you.
I simply can’t respond to all of the emails and do them justice, and I don’t have commenting capability on DeepAstronomy, so I wanted to thank you all here. I have the bestest readers in all of the internets.
