How Much Has The Universe Expanded Since You Were Born?
Let’s see, since my birthday, June 5th 1962, here’s what’s happened in the universe (among many other things, to be sure - like, at least six):
SINCE YOU WERE BORN
you have orbited the Sun 44 times
the Earth has spun on itself 14580 times
308 new stars were born in the Milky Way galaxy
the Universe has expanded by a distance equivalent to 25 Solar Systems
Doctor P from SpaceGeek.org has just put this kinda neat calculator on his site that will give you the above information for your birthday. This guy also makes some pretty and professional astronomy videos that are worth checking out. He has a really nice site.
I’m not sure the Earth can spin on itself though, and the solar system units are a little different, but I guess it is a good way to visualize the distance. Although, I would perhaps use volume units, like cubic solar systems, but I’m just being a pain in the ass. It’s fun stuff. I love the number of new stars born though, that’s cool.
Now, if he turned this into a widget or provide an api, we bloggers could connect up to it and he’d get a lot of inbound links.
Kinda fun….

Okay, I’d love to do this but how?
If you can give some ideas on how, and explainwhy a widget would be good for everyone, I’d find a way. (You can contact me through my website )
