iOptron Contest Voting Ends Tonight at Midnight CST.

by Tony on January 31st, 2008

When the clock strikes twelve here in southern Illinois, voting will close for my very first contest.

The person with the most votes will get the iOptron mount I bought a few months ago, second place will get a $50.00 Amazon gift certificate, third place, $25.00 Amazon gift certificate.

I’ve noticed that we seem to have a dead-heat in the voting between Jim and Johanna. Jim’s entry sat for a while without garnering any votes when suddenly it exploded with votes, presumably he mounted a get-out-the-vote campaign.

As I write this, Jim is ahead by one vote with 123 votes to Johanna’s 122.

Since I’m making this up as I go along, I should probably think about what to do in case of a tie. In that event, I’ll be the tie-breaker and I’ll base my vote on how many comments of support there were for each contestant and how much I liked the entry itself.

I’ve managed to get a decent traffic boost from this contest and there was also a mild increase in commenting so I consider this contest a success for me. I sincerely hope that the NEW people who came by to vote for their favorite entry (or their friend, whichever it was), manage to stick around. Time will tell with that, I guess.

One thing just occurred to me, I hope the winner doesn’t end up living in, say, Paraguay or something and I have to pay $800.00 for shipping. You gotta admit though, I give away some pretty great swag. I don’t see other bloggers giving away their telescope stuff to their readers. See how much I care about you guys?

Good luck and tell all your friends to get here before the polls close!

[Oh, I’ve been asked to add that the poll is located on the right sidebar, BELOW all of those ads, the about me stuff and the recent posts. You gotta scroll down to see it.]

Ummm, Tony, just for your info….you ain’t in southern IL. This is considered “central Illinois.” You are in the middle. Don’t let those Chicagoans at Fermilab tell you any different.

Thanks. With all this snow and wind, it doesn’t seem very southern anyway…

Does the sun EVER come out here? And don’t get me started ’bout this wind….

I did see the stars earlier this week, but it was -5 degrees and I didn’t have my long johns, but the stars were strikingly beautiful out in the middle of corn field country.
