Lunar Eclipse Tonight

In all the posts about tonight’s lunar eclipse, it’s easy to get the impression that you need to go out tomorrow night to see it.

While technically that’s true, it is on Tuesday, you’re gonna need to go out tonight to see it. For people in North America at least, the eclipse happens in the early morning on Tuesday, or very late tonight, depending on how you look at such things.

From about 2:30 am onward, I’ll be able to see it from my backyard, even with all the goddamsumbitchin’ lights shining in my face. Pamela was lamenting the timing, saying it was gonna make her crabby for her 9am meetings, but for vampire astronomers like me, the timing is (steeple my fingers and insert Monty Burns impression here) eeexxxxccccellent.

There’s already some good blogging going on about it, I’ll try to take some pictures if I’m in the mood and show em to you. Lunar eclipses are one of those things I like tp put up some music to and veg out in a lawn chair over, so I may not be feeling too active tonight. I think I’ll turn some goth music on tonight, maybe that’ll rev me up.

Well, i’m moving down to rural Cornwall from megacity Leeds next year in March (both UK). This is good news as the light polution will be a lot lower than where I am at the moment. I think as a present to myself, I am going to buy my first telescope…a Dobsonian 10″. I can only read so many blogs and watch so many youtube clips and keep my passion to look up at the night sky through an eye piece abated for so long. Severe light polution in Leeds (they sky is orange bordering on daylight) has always put me off investing in a telescope.

I guess reading yet another post on an astronomical event that I will miss) got me thinking. I hope you don’t mind me sharing! Reading your posts is like bread and water to a nomad in a desert.

    Hi Samuel,

Thanks for taking the time out to comment. You’re always welcome to share whatever you like. I’m glad you’re hear and I think you made a good choice with getting a Dobsonian, they are excellent first telescopes.

Actually, they are excellent telescopes period.

    Welcome and thanks again!

Oh and Julie, the Goth music was a nice addition. I found it very rejuvinating at 3am.
