New Template, Whaddya Think?
Looks like I have a new template for my blog. I should point out that all I do for b5media is write and post, I really don’t have much to do with how things look, what ads appear on my site or anything like that.
They did ask me if I had any color preferences, and I said I did not, so this is what they gave me.
I guess I like the new look, I’m still deciding. The black background could use one of those static, non-scrolling images like a galaxy or something, but those kinds of things eat up a lot of bandwidth so I don’t think I’ll suggest it.
I think the text stuff is cleaner though, especially the style for the blockquote, I hated the way those looked in the old template.
I don’t like that my blogroll is way down at the bottom. I liked the prominent location it had before.
Anyway, let me know what you guys think. If you hate it, I’ll put in a request for something else.

I’ll be honest here - I’m not real fond of the template. I feel like advertising is more important than the content. The large b5media banner at the top shouldn’t be at the top. The Astronomy Buff banner should be at the top! Then on the right side in the blue area, I see 4 little ad squares before “About Astronomy Buff”….it just turns me off. If I landed here for my first time, I might leave before I discovered the fact that there is quality content here….
I know ads are important, but poor placement can make them unattractive to new users.
Just my honest opinion :-)

It’s cleaner, and the page does load much faster, which I like very much.
like Beau, I find the right side of the page not so attractive. Ads are now bigger ? It looks like they have taken way too much importance. The Astronomy Buff banner is too small. Any way to make it bigger and place it on the very top ?

Hi Guys,
I know what you mean. The ads are really intrusive and occupy all the prime real estate on the site. I guess I can’t fault ‘em for that since they are trying to make money, but still, it’s a little obnoxious.
I really want my blogroll higher, I like putting other sites I find useful in a place where more people will see it. It helps those sites and provides a resource to my readers.
Frederica, you’re right, the site does seem faster, before it used to get really bogged down and was a little irritating to have to wait so much. I used to think it was just the server load, not from my site, but from other b5 sites. Maybe the template is helping things load faster, and that is a plus.
Anyway, thanks for the input. I’m going to pass these comments on to b5media and see what happens. I’ll wait a couple of days to see if anyone else says anything.
