Saturn From Above In Living Color
Last week’s astronomy porn was a mosaic of photographs taken by the Cassini Spacecraft on January 20, 2007 showing the entire ring system from high above the planet. Emily Lakdawalla had posted the initial attempts last week at assembling the photos into one larger one. Yesterday, Emily wrote that Ian Regan had put the finishing touches on the mosaic. Here they are normalized to the same brightness and brilliantly stitched together. This picture was posted last Wednesday on the Planetary Society’s Weblog, written by Emily. These images were taken earlier this month when the spacecraft was 60 degrees above the plane of the rings. This is one of my favorite Saturn images yet.
