Seeing in the Dark on PBS
On September 19th, PBS stations will air a show which focuses on the joys of stargazing. Here’s a preview:
This show will be light on science and is based on Timothy Ferris’ book of the same name. There are lots of interviews with amateur astronomers from around the world giving testament to why we spend all this time in the dark.
Sky and Telescope magazine wrote that
This is the TV show we wanted to make.
I’m looking forward to it, it reminds me of a series the PBS produced in the mid-1990’s called ‘The Astronomers’ which focused on the research and personalities of professional astronomers.
The show will be preaching to the choir for those of us already into this stuff, so if you’re new to astronomy and wonder what’s so great about sitting quietly in the dark listening to fans from electronic equipment over the quiet soundtrack of Jean Michel Jarre’s music all by yourself, then tune in.
Before you know it, you’ll be spending more time under the stars than you do under the sun, and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
