The ISS Is Flying Over My House
On the following days, I’m going to get to see the International Space Station:
40° 00′ N 105° 08′ W 2007/10/04 08:58 pm Sunrise/set: 07:01 am / 06:37 pm
Local Duration
Date Time (min) Approach Max. elevation Departure
————————————————————————
2007/10/04 09:01 pm <1 12° above WNW 12° above WNW 12° above WNW
2007/10/05 07:50 pm 3 16° above WSW 58° above NW 38° above NNE
2007/10/06 08:14 pm 2 15° above WNW 22° above NNW 22° above NNW
2007/10/07 07:01 pm 5 11° above WSW 55° above N 15° above NE
2007/10/07 08:37 pm <1 10° above NW 10° above NW 10° above NW
I’ll be going out with my camera tomorrow night if it’s clear. Tonight’s flyby was missed due to clouds in the WNW skies over my house.
I got this output from Sky and Telescope’s Satellite Tracker.

Too bad, ( I assume), that you aren’t an Amateur Radio operator. You could possibly talk to them as they pass over head. Amateur Radio is every bit science and a wonderful avocation. It even integrates very nicely with Amateur astronomy in the form of radio astronomy. great page, thanks.

No, I’m not, but I often thought about getting my general license. I good friend of mine is a ham operator (ka0dzm) and was really inspiring to watch.
Do you talk to the guys in the ISS? I’d love to hear a story.
Thanks for commenting.

Hi Tony, No I’m afraid I haven’t made an ISS or shuttle contact as of yet. I did once make an
RS10 contact many years ago before I received my General license. That was up on 10 meters and
down on two meters. Actually quite exciting but not the same as actually chatting with someone
in orbit. Making sat/ISS contacts is easier than ever these days with the new radios on the market.
A far cry from only a decade ago! Thanks again for your website. I was very impressed and saddened
with your home schooling article I read yesterday. I wish you great success with your class.
All the best and GL!
