The Worst Astronomy Picture of 2006

I’m a contrarian. I don’t like to do things the way everyone else does them, it’s a character flaw, I guess. Lately I’ve been getting bombarded with advice from blogs I’ve been reading and other bloggers I communicate with on how to blog whenever the new year comes along.

Apparently, I’m supposed to come up with “Best of” posts and top 1,2,3,4,5,6… lists that relate to my blog’s subject. The problem is, there are hundreds of OTHER astronomy bloggers doing the same thing and some are doing a way better job of it than I could. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bitter, in fact, I’m thrilled that there is so much great stuff being done in the blogosphere about astronomy.

But when I see something already being done, and done well, I see no point in wasting my time trying to duplicate it. Besides, I have other things to say, things that ONLY I can say, so I’m always going to take that route. It’s the only hope I have in building a unique astronomy blog worth reading.

Still, I want to be liked, and I wanna be included with the cool kids just like everyone else, and I have no real pride, so I’m prone to give in from time to time.

But, as much as I want you to like me and include me in all the reindeer games, I STILL just can’t bring myself to do a ‘best of’ or list post. So, in my proud tradition of being difficult, nonconformist, and a generally pissy person, I’m gonna do a ‘worst of’ post. I’m going to present you, my dear, dear readers with the Worst Astronomy Picture of 2006.

This is the worst astronomy picture I have ever seen folks. Apparently it is an image of a “star”, but it’s not like any “star” I’ve ever seen. It is an image of a relatively young, white-hot “star” burning it’s nuclear fuel at a dangerously prodigious rate.

I mean, I can barely call this an image of a “star”.
