There’s Good Money in Astronomy

Astronomy has been very good to me.
Contrary to what you may have heard, there’s money to be made in the sciences, particularly astronomy.
Consider for example:
- The Clyde Tombaugh estate gets money every time someone says the word Pluto. Even Disney has to pay.
- The Edwin Hubble estate gets royalties for every paper that mentions universal expansion.
- Albert Einstein’s heirs get money every time someone understands general relativity. A little less for special relativity.
- Astronomers get a signing bonus for every comet named after them.
- There’s a 10 million dollar X-prize for anyone who can say something coherent about string theory.
As for my humble contribution from this blog, I was able to buy all the fake bling you see here and put new rims on my telescope tripod wheelie bars.
It’s good to be an astronomer.
Happy Halloween.

Sorry! I’ve been away on travel. I have much to discuss and announce. I’m writing as we speak.
